Who I Am

My clients describe me as someone they feel safe and comfortable with, someone they feel they can trust, and someone that genuinely cares for them. My clinical background for the past seven years involves working intensively in in-home settings providing quality counseling services for children/adolescents and their families, working as a psychiatric social worker on psych units in hospital setting, and providing outpatient counseling services for children, adolescents and adults in community health clinics. I was named Joy because I strive to bring joy into all that I do. I love my profession and sincerely hope that through working with me, my clients can feel empowered to find joy and happiness in their lives again.

What I Do

I have a strong passion for helping adults struggling with perfectionism or anxiety/worry, people who are troubled with their "unfinished business" from the past, those that identify themselves as a "people pleaser" and people who somehow feel like they are not good enough. Many of my clients report being abused or neglected some time in their lives, especially in their childhood. I firmly believe that everybody can heal from past wound given the right resources and support, and everybody has the anser withing themselves. Therefore, it is my role to help you reach your full potential and help you find the answers you have been looking for, the solutions to current struggles, and pathway to long-term wellness.

How I Do It

One of the things I valued the most at my practice is my clients' therapeutic bond with me. Therefore, my top priority is to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to work through current struggles. I am committed to helping you identify the core issues leading up to present concerns, and providing the necessary knowledge for you to gain more insight into current issues. I will explain all the treatment options in details, and we will work closely as a team to come up with a treatment plan that best meets your therapeutic needs and goals. A combination of evidence-based and compassion-based therapy approaches will be used throughout the treatment to help achieve your goals. Your therapy experience and feedback are highly valued by me, so will be evaluated periodically to ensure the best treatment outcome.

It has been a very enlightening, insightful and overall great experience working with Joy. I have come further in these few short months than I ever had in years of mental health counseling. I will never forget Joy.

Joy is a natural therapist. She has a very caring and compassionate heart to do her job well. She always makes me feel relaxed and comfortable. Even when we were working on some tough stuff, she was always there for me. I have been using the exercises she taught me. My anxiety has gone down a lot since I started seeing her.

I have learned so much through working with my therapist Joy Gillespie. I’m now able to recognize my anger before it gets way out of my hand. I learned to think before I make a decision. Before I was really testy and had a hard time communicating. It’s much better now. I also start to see the impact of my childhood on how I handle things now. Therapy work with Joy really helped me move forward in my life.
